In remaining matches of Indian Premier League the Rajasthan Royals will be bringing back Ajinkya Rahane as the captain, replacing Steve Smith, who has left to join the Australian squad for World Cup preparedness.
Last month the franchise sacked Rahane following just two wins in first eight matches this season. Smith led three victories thereafter in five matches under his captaincy.
However, after the quit of former Australian captain mid-season the head of Rajasthan Royals, Zubin Bharucha, believes Rahane could be the perfect guiding force of the squad and can take the team to IPL finals.
In a statement thereafter he said, “We have requested Ajinkya to take on the captaincy of the team… As a true Royal he has shown great courage and character in graciously accepting the responsibility, which accompanies this role, whilst it would have been easier for him to take a back seat and focus solely on his batting.”
The Royals head further added that Ajinkya has been part of the leadership team consistently and taken key decisions.
He said the franchise has trust on him and he will take the team to victory.
Currently the Royals is in fifth place on the table with 11 points from thirteen games. Saturday’s match is crucial against Delhi Capitals to stand any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
