North Korea lately acknowledged the summit between US President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong Un in February ended unexpectedly without an agreement. The meeting was held in Vietnam’s Hanoi.
State news agency KCNA said Friday the meeting was previously painted in a positive light, but it went below expectation.
The report added, “The public at home and abroad that had hoped for success and good results from the second DPRK-US summit in Hanoi are feeling regretful, blaming the US for the summit that ended unexpectedly without an agreement.”
United States hoped the summit would emerge as a success of Trump’s diplomatic gamble with North Korea.
US claims the meeting ended with no joint statement due to demand of North Korea to lift all the sanctions.
Trump then said, “Sometimes you have to walk… This was just one of those times.”
Meanwhile, latest satellite images show North Korea is rebuilding a portion of a facility that was earlier used to test long-range missile engines. Questions are being raised on US-North Korea future negotiations in denuclearization.
Trump lately said it is too early to see whether the country restarted its missile testing program and he would be disappointed if things turn up such.
