Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is trying to compare his country with neighboring India in terms of treatment of minorities. He said unlike India the minorities in Naya Pakistan would be treated as equal citizens.
Tuesday was the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali and speaking on the occasion the former cricketer-turned politician said Jinnah envisaged the country as a democratic, just and compassionate nation.
He added that Mohammad Ali Jinnah wanted minorities to be equal citizens in Pakistan and it is to recollect that during the initial days of his political career he was ambassador for Hindu Muslim unity.
The prime minister tweeted, “Naya Pakistan is Quaid’s (Jinnah) Pakistan and will ensure that our minorities are treated as equal citizens, unlike what is happening in India.”
Khan continued saying that Jinnah struggled for a separate nation as he realized Muslims would be ill-treated by the Hindu majority in India.
Earlier this week Khan compared the same by saying that his government is ensuring religious minorities get their due rights in his country.
He was addressing an event to mark 100-day achievements of the Punjab government and said will show the Indian government how to treat religious minorities.
Meanwhile, Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah advised Khan first to look his own country and thereafter comment on India.
He said, “I think Mr Khan should be walking the talk in his country instead of commenting on issues that don’t concern him. We have been a democracy for 70 years and we know how to look after ourselves.”
