Even though UIDAI claims the Aadhaar database cannot be breached, but new leak suggests government departments are using the unique identification number to aggregate data from different departments.

A cyber security researcher, Srinivas Kodali, has put up a complain lately that the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation has exposed private information of about 1.3 lakh individuals and more than 50 lakh people in it are now allowed to be targeted based on caste, religion and locality.

The worse part of new data leak is that the private information has been put on public domain through websites for anyone to see.

Making the situation further dangerous a search feature has been embeded on the websites to generate targeted lists of people bsaed on cast, religion, locality and other parameters.

Hyderabad-based Kodali said the new leak is contrary to what the central government has been claiming to the apex court.

He added, “The UIDAI has informed the Supreme Court that Aadhaar can never be used for surveillance or to track religious and caste information. But the fact is the Andhra Pradesh government has used Aadhaar to build profiles of their beneficiaries.”

After the compalin website of Andhra’s housing corporation has been shut down.

Meanwhile, property analyst Amba Kak said there area several ways how such data can be misused.
