It was supposed to be a six-week campaign of peaceful protests on Gaza Strip, but bloodshed and chaos descended on Friday with at least eight death and many injuries by Israeli soldiers in confrontations.

The protest campaign began Friday morning and if belived to the Israeli army the Palestinian protesters were rioting in six different locations along the border fence.

Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza confirmed death of eight Palestinians and injuries of more than 1,000 by Israeli fire.

Israeli forces confronted the protesters by firing live ammunition, tear gas and rubber bullets.

The area surrounding Gaza Strip is declared as a closed military zone and the Israeli army said they were responding with riot dispersal means.

The idea of protest, named as the Great March of Return, or the March of the Million, was to peacefully campaign against more than decade-long blockade of Gaza by Israel that restricts movement of goods and people, and to highlight demands for a right of return to the land that is now Israel since 1948, whcen Israel was created.

Most of the two million residents in Gaza are refugees or their descendants of the 1948 war.
