If you are struggling with your current job or are stuck in the same space for years, your career is going nowhere. It might be a rough spot for you. Waking up every day working hard is taking you nowhere? Maybe you are doing something wrong. Maybe you need to take a break, look into things, and do the wrongs right to ramp up your career.
Here are five simple steps to help you ramp up your career
Determine What You Want
There might be something that you are passionate about, something that draws you. Evaluate that part of you. See what has inspired you, what you have achieved, and indulged yourself all these years. For example, you might be working 9 to 5 in a corporate job that you are not keen on; it is time for you to quit and go after your passion because you can’t be stuck in something forever that doesn’t fascinate you to least.
Take a break, quit your job you will enough finance to survive. Take a look back at your interest what you can do with your skills and passion. You will definitely find something that is worth doing.
Do Not Rely On Job Boards Alone
Most people rely on online platforms to find a job. They send out applications to their desired positions and wait for a response; it doesn’t come in most cases. Many jobs posted online will often not respond because they would have already found someone for the role. Relying on job portals alone cannot be a very good idea. What you need to do is find the jobs that are not listed on the job market.
Do you know how many good opportunities don’t get listed? Instead, go to the “hidden job market.” That is networking. If you are looking for a job in a particular domain, make some connections with the professionals in the field; most of the time, the company announces vacancies to the employees to find someone they can fill in rather than advertising it. If you network with people, you will be notified of such opportunities increasing your chances of getting hired.
So, get into the field rather than relying on job boards.
Work On Target Organizations
Once you have discovered what you want to do, the next step is to be completely aware of the work you will be doing and then start researching companies in that domain. List out the companies that you find can scale your career and apply to those available openings.
Use LinkedIn to make secondary connections in the companies and to gather information.
Network
Running into people accidentally and asking them for help can be a bit dramatic, and also, approaching them out of the blue can be very uncomfortable. Instead, use your present contacts and ask them to introduce you to some relevant individuals who can help you build your network and use some of the networking platforms to build personal and business connections.
Bring Your Story To Life
If you just produce a resume and sit like a dummy with monotonous answers in the interview, you have near to zero chances of attracting the recruiter.
Most of the time, it is all about your skills, and your communication the way you present yourself is very important. You need to convey your experience, skills, and what you can bring to the company. You need to make an impression give them a strong point on why they want to choose you, not the other one.
Practice your story every day; it needs to roll out of your tongue flawlessly; if you stutter or take breaks in between, the recruiter will think you are making up things. So ensure you are equipped with a proper story on the day of the interview.
