One of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convicts died Thursday while serving prison at Nagpur Central Jail.
Abdul Gani Turk was convicted for planting a bomb at Century Bazar and lodged in the prison since 2012. He was serving life imprisonment. His death sentence was commuted.
A total of twele3 sites were devastated by serial blasts in Mumbai on 12 March 1993 killing 257 people.
According to jail superintendent Rani Bhosle the 68-year-old was not keeping well lately and on April 22 admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Following initial treatment Turk was brought back to his cell and was treated at the prison hospital. Thursday morning he became unconscious and was rushed to the GMCH. At around 12.45 pm he was declared dead.
The cause of his death is not yet known. More will be learned from the autopsy report, which is awaited.
It is learned in 2018 Turk suffered paralysis.
